Innovative changes for maintenance of railway by using ICT -To Achieve “Smart Maintenance”
Owing to the great development of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in recent years, it has become possible to realize innovative change in railway maintenance. The Research and Development Center of JR East Group has proposed “the Smart Maintenance” as 21st century innovation for the maintenance of railway equipment. Now, we tackle various R&D activities relating railway maintenance (for example, rolling stock, track, civil engineering structures, electric & signal facilities) in Technical Center, a part of this center, to achieve more effective and economical maintenance work.
In my talk, I will introduce the overview of “the Smart Maintenance” and our latest R&D activities. We have developed methods for acquiring high-frequency monitoring data of facilities and analyzing these “Big Data”. Moreover, to achieve “the Smart Maintenance”, I want to refer to future plans about JR East’s maintenance work that we are planning.
